The ‘Baker clause’ – forcing schools to open their doors to FE providers – will take effect from January, according to guidance published this morning by the Department for Education.

The amendment to the Technical and Further Education Act, enshrined into law in May, was proposed by former education secretary Lord Baker, who acknowledged the move was likely to be universally hated by schools.

ITPs were told a year ago that their AEB contracts would come to an end this July, rather than being automatically renewed as before, and they were forced to take part in a procurement process for a pot worth
